Your Declaration of Independence

July 2, 2015

In a few days, we will celebrate the birth of our Nation. Two hundred thirty-nine years ago, our founders fought for the freedom to pray (or not pray), speak (or not speak), act (or not act) in accordance with their values and beliefs. Those brave men, women and children had the courage to challenge the country and king who tried to control their behavior. Their declaration demonstrated a commitment to creating a nation where everyone had the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Their declaration of independence also made it known they had a sense of urgency to create their freedom now, not later.

This year, before you gather with your family and friends to enjoy food and fireworks on the 4th of July, take time to think about the freedom you have been given. Consider creating your own personal declaration, not to another country but to yourself. Reflect on your health, family and work and determine what you want to do better. Identify the habits that are holding you back and create your declaration of independence from those unconscious routines.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is an unalienable right given to all Americans. What we do with that privilege is up to us.

Let’s Get Better. Together!
