Who Needs You to Forgive Them Today?

February 1, 2015

In order to build thriving relationships, we have to have the courage to grant forgiveness to the people in our world. Individuals and organizations can’t make steady progress, grow vigorously and flourish until forgiveness is granted. However, it’s especially hard to do when you feel the other person does not deserve to be pardoned.

Holding grudges is also harmful to our health and well-being. Anger, resentment, bitterness and hostility are the negative companions of those who are unable to forgive.

Spend 15-30 minutes today and think about the people in your world who could benefit from your forgiveness. Consider family members, friends, co-workers and clients from your past and present. Include individuals who are alive and those who have passed away. It would also be beneficial if you made a list of the wrongs you have done and ask others to forgive you as well.

By the way, someone we all need to forgive and ask for forgiveness is ourselves. Our self-talk can be so damaging when we do something wrong and, at the same time, many of us devalue our efforts when we accomplish a positive goal.

I’m sure this doesn’t apply to everyone but, if it’s true for you, make a decision right now to stop judging yourself. It’s time to move forward. I also think you will find it easier to forgive others when you learn to forgive yourself.
